Where the Yeo meets tidal Severn
stands St Congar's peaceful scene.
Here through many pastoral ages
time-less water meadows dream.
Once craft from far distant shores
brought bounty to a busy strand
until man's art withheld the sea,
creating a rich and pleasant land
The king of fishers here is found
flashing where water boatmen glide
as diving ducks probe muddy depths
in gloom where silver shadows slide
Soft ripples grace the gentle flow
harrying streaming waving weed.
Dark stones lie on a velvet floor anchoring flutes of waving weed
Man and beast are here at peace
at distance from the common race
there is no scrabble to be first
within this friendly calmer place
So traveller stay and rest a while
know and enjoy our country ways,
rejoice that here you can beguile
the pace and peace of older days.
