People in Glass Houses…continuing.
Harvey was really pissed off that his holiday of a lifetime had been so unceremoniously taken from him. Now with time on his hands, the prospect of a protest demonstration did have a certain attraction. After conferring with Brian, he set to work and soon displayed his objection in the form of a placard bearing, in bold lettering, the exhortation Insineration is not the Answer .
Brian agreed that this would certainly get people talking, maybe even thinking, about the Council’s plan.
Harvey’s attention was suddenly switched to a more personal matter with the arrival of another letter from the travel company acting on behalf of the British Heart Foundation. It informed Harvey that the cruise had been rescheduled to a later date and that the ship would now sail from Southampton, cruise down the western coast of France, Spain and Portugal, visiting Gibraltar and Morocco before returning via different ports to Southampton. In compensation for any disappointment this change of plan might have caused, the B.H.F. was offering a further £100 to the winner.
Laura was ecstatic, and Harvey was well pleased too. “To me, that sounds like a more interesting itinerary; plus, since the ship sails from Southampton, there will be no flying involved and no chance of being messed about by French air traffic controllers”
Laura saw it as one potential hurdle out of the way. “You are not too disappointed then? Still happy to go cruising?”
“Certainly. It is a wonderful opportunity. As I see it, one or two passengers here or there will make no difference to the operation of the ship.” Harvey was employing his pliable principals once again.
Laura had been studying the letter. “There is no mention of any chauffeured limousine. It looks as if we will have to make our own way down to Southampton and back. That could be awkward”. She was thinking of the inevitably large suitcases such a voyage would entail.
“The crafty bastards !” Harvey exclaimed, presumably referring to the B.H.F. “They give with one hand but then take away with the other!”
Brian was the first person to be told. “Well, that’s good news for you. You’ve certainly won a magnificent cruise, and from Southampton too. How will you be getting down there?”
“By train, I suppose” Laura replied “but I am not looking forward to the hassle of moving our suitcases on and off the train”.
“Yes, it will be something of a problem” confirmed Harvey, “but they have given us some extra cash”.
Brian was silent, deep in thought. “I might have a solution for you. Let me have a word with a pal of mine. You could hear from him within a couple of days”.
