1 I find it very daunting to contemplate approaching idiocy but as far as IT is concerned I think I'm there which is most affronting and to cap it all my EMails may be playing up, as before. I gather from Richard I can correct my threads by pressing EDIT. but rigorous search fails to reveal it. As a last resort I have ventured into HELP and after much effort deduced that EDIT must be preceded by clicking the profile button. THERE IS NO PROFILE BUTTON ! or anything I have divined as such. 2 I see we have 5 members now inc Jobie !? 3 How can I find Spell Check ? Can someone help?

Hi John
I will try and help but I am no expert.
I think you need to be logged in to be able to edit. I see from your HELP screen that you are only in as a guest. If you log ion, the EDIT button should appear at top right.
We only have four members as Kay is also Admin. Jobie is a new member who is also a member of out Cafe Three Zero ( CTZ) group.
No idea on the spell check - maybe Kay can help.

Hi Richard In my innocence I have always assumed I was LOGGED IN every time I posted anything or even just looked for anything new Are you implying I need to be something other than a guest ? I thought I would try a different designation so tried to reregister to attain this; doing so it asked me for my password. I cant recall giving one, if I did, so reset it When I turn on WR now it invites me to log out !! still no EDIT. Sorry to be a pain. Is there any chance we could meet ?
Since EM 's seem dodgy Do you have a telephone number? Did you get my EM of 23rd ?

It's difficult to take you through it remotely, but the most important thing to remember is that by logging in you make the edit functions available. Also, if you do a 'Quick Reply' you don't have access to all the tools, whereas if you click 'Reply', you have a lot more options. A quick reply is done by using the box beneath all the other posts. Reply is done by clicking the green 'Reply' on the right of that box. This is getting very wordy and I completely understand if I'm making no sense at all!
As for the spellcheck, that is an automatic thing that runs constantly. I don't think there is any way of running spellcheck in the way you do in your office software on your computer.
The login thing caught me out at first, but just make sure you're logged in before you start creating or replying to posts and you should have access to all the tools (apart from a controllable spellchecker!).
I'll see if I can take some pictures to make it clearer - it's hard to explain it without them.

It's just possible you may be getting the impression I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. This is of course a carefully constructed front in order to make everyone feel more at ease. Honest.

How devious Kay! It seems I can add things, and have often, just by going onto the site. --- which I took to be "logging on"!
I have since discovered a direction to "log on" on Home page which is presumably what is recommended. I did that but still cant find a way to Edit. If you can bear to, can you tell me exactly what action you would take if like me you wanted to delete the first silly spread out version of Civil War. I would be so interested in this magic which is denied to me.
I have just found out that I have been offered a chance to edit this message by George!

Hi John. Yes, I thought the same as you about logging in and was a bit mystified when I couldn't do certain things. I'll see if I can take you through it without being too wordy and confusing! Go to the post you want to edit and look at the right hand corner of your post: there is an Edit button next to 'Quote' that allows you to modify your text. I found this page in the Proboards help forum: support.proboards.com/thread/460286/ which hopefully explains rather better than I can how to edit or delete posts. So far as I know I haven't inadvertently locked any of our topics, but it's just possible I may have clicked something by mistake, so if you find that you can't delete something, give me a shout and I'll delve deeper. Let me know how you get on, and also let me know if you want me to do away with the Quick Reply thingy. It's just possible that's complicating things unnecessarily. Good luck, Kay.

Hi Again there is definatly no edit next to Quote there is a "post option " only--- that is when I first LOG ON ?? When I LOG ON again from home page I also get a gloved thumbs-up . Pressing QUOTE IN THIS MODE I was able to high-light the offending text and it disappeared on pressing KeyBoard delete--- or so I thought it is still there now. I think I may have an email from you somewhere if so I will send you screen saves A thought Is it anything to do with the pale blue ghost I appear to be charactertised with. Does pale blue Ryhmer have the same problems I wonder
PS my em is tickenham0505@btinternet.com

Hi again Kay Re your para 2 I definatley have no EDIT Every time I start a reply and have to refer back to the ode I loose what I have written. I suggest if you are willing to continue, you must have amazing patience , we do it by EMail I can then send you picks of what I have without boring every one else I wonder if my ghostly pale blue characterisation is to blame !?

Hi John,
this is strange. I wonder if because I'm admin/ moderator I have access to Edit functions. Most forums allow members to edit their own posts, but without seeing your logged in screen I can't make out what's going on. I can probably adjust your access in the admin section - make you a moderator for example - but that doesn't answer the question for other members. I shall investigate.
Your blue ghost is your avatar. The ghostly figure is just the default image that pro boards gives its members, but you can create one for yourself by going into 'Profile', 'edit profile' - this takes you to a first page of many (most of which I haven't fully explored!). The first page is all about creating an avatar. It uses a program whereby you click a face shape you like, hair, eyes etc. and then when you're happy with your image you 'save avatar'. It's quite fun to play with.
Right, I'm going to delve deeper into your edit issues. For now, I shall probably add you as a moderator and see if that works. If you want help with the avatar, shout. There is a little cartoon man who appears in the 'Avatar Maker' who explains what to do, but I ignored him and just clicked things!

Right, I'm back in my 'Admin' mode - my admin avatar wears a hat, just so you can tell who I'm being! I've added you as a moderator, which might change what tools are available to you. Can you let me know if this has worked or not? Thanks.
p.s. except for some reason my shiny new avatar isn't working. Nobody panic. This forum is not being run by an incompetent, honestly!

Ahh! I forgot to click 'use only your default avatar' on the first page of edit profile. I suspect this forum could work very well, if only someone could teach us how to use it

At the top of the home page click on Profile this will open your profile, from there you can follow the links to create an avatar, then when you click on to your posts you will find the edit button next to the quote button. That is how it worked for me, best of luck. Rhymer.

This is very interesting. It's strange that you have to create an avatar to access the Edit functions, but if it works, hey! Thanks Rhymer.
John, I've taken some screenshots which I'm going to add arrows to so you can see where your functions should be. It'll be a while because I've got to persuade Illustrator (my graphics software) to start up, and it's normally pretty reluctant! Watch this space ...
p.s. I've extended how many posts can be viewed on one page because this topic had gone onto a second page and I was worried people might not realise! We'll tackle that one later.
